“.. the bass has a name. the name had a face, a voice- a particular dark tone of a voice, now only found whenever I play this bass. this bass has a tattoo on its back to remember the voice that’s no longer here.

.. the tattoo was created by Newark, in the form of man. His name is/was/is Jerry Gant.

It was done on November 20, 2014 in Newark, NJ.”

Upton Bass, 2008

“.. tried out on a spontaneous whim as a rental, and an honorable promise kept via my man, bass extraordinaire Matthew Rybicki, to sell me this great instrument. Never even LOOKED at another bass again!”

“.. my ‘tenor’ bow (top), made by the master craftsman/ luthier, Mike Weatherly. It’s his eleventh bow made, per the number branded on the bow.

my ‘alto’ bow is made from an unknown maker. Shorter in length and lighter in weight, I can really fly on this bow, when the spirit hits me (laughing).

The rosin I really enjoy these days is a leatherwood rosin.”
